Dream Back-Up Dancer: Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation"
As a long-time Janet fan, the most iconic video that comes to mind in terms of her choreography is Rhythm Nation. The black and white aesthetic mixed with the structured and sharp dancing is just as vivid as it was when released in 1989.
Not only is the message behind the lyrics incredibly powerful, but dancing behind Janet in the factory must have been such a rush! I would clearly run, not jog, to find my button shirt and hat and help recreate the scene.
With the help of Anthony Thomas, Janet co-choreographed the routine. With its perfectly executed lines and stand-out soloists, Rhythm Nation is considered one of the most emulated and groundbreaking music videos of all time.
Oh, and if Janet needs some tour support, I know several other adult dancers besides myself who would gladly hop on the bus!
